True Laziness

Lazy people don’t even cook the game they catch,
But the diligent make use of everything they find.
Proverbs 12:27

Will you call a man lazy, who went as far as hunting for a game? Will any hunter leave his game to waste, even if he got it for free? Is this just about hunters and animals, does it relate to me? How have I being lazy? What have I being wasting?

How many ideas have I gotten this year? How many did I bother to work on? None? The scriptures say I am lazy.

How many years did you spend in the university…four, five, six or seven? What did you learn there? What in the world have you done with that knowledge? Are these not the games you caught and refused to cook? The scriptures describe you as lazy.

You can sing, you can play any instrument, you can act, you can preach, you can write, yet, right now, you do none of them. You caught games, yet you refused to cook. The scriptures say you are lazy.

You bought that book, or someone bought it for you. The ideas in it are life transforming, but this same book has been on your desk for months, you keep saying “I have not had time to read it.” That’s how you’ll end up not reading it, just like several others. You a have refused to cook the same game you caught yourself. The scriptures say you are lazy.

What is it that you can do, which up till now, you have left undone? Nothing was given to you by God, so that you can waste them. Not even the least expensive thing or idea. The diligent make use of everything they find. Your time, that skill, that talent, that gift, that idea, that book, that certificate, that little knowledge, that script you wrote, that short song you composed, that experience you had…name them. Use them! Let them not be wasted.

Immediately you hunt down an animal, decomposition starts, even though it might be early to notice. If left for too long, you wouldn’t even stand the odour. The hunter doesn’t waste time to cook it. The same goes for your resources; they leave you as soon as they come if you don’t use them. Why not cook your game?

The Holy Spirit has inspired the writer of Proverbs 12, to tell you that you are lazy, not because you are not trying, (like the hunter who goes hunting and catches a game), but because you are not utilizing the resources already in your position. (You are not cooking the game.) A smart hunter will at least sell the game to someone who will cook it. All those ideas you have kept to yourself, can you at least sell them to someone?

True laziness is; being in possession of unutilized resources. True laziness is; knowing what to do, yet leaving them undone.

Lazy people don’t even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find. Proverbs 12:27
